Result and general impression …
The Thermaltake BigTyp Revo. can score with its simple, yet stable mounting and its top-blow design. Especially the easy access to most areas of the motherboard is a big plus.
Two major flaws have emerged during our test. Firstly, a lot of potential cooling capacity is lost by the lack of contact between 2 of 5 heatpipes to the CPU heatspreader. This could have been compensated by using a copper baseplate, but instead cheaper aluminium is used which has lower thermal conduction. Secondly, the fan which is being supplied. Half of the speed would have sufficed. This way a quiet cooling would be possible while still being able to reach its maximum cooling capacity.
The cooling capacity is overall respectable* and therefore the Thermaltake BigTyp Revo is still a good choice if you need high cooling performance while not being able to use a high tower cooler.
In our interactive Fit for Fan guide you can virtually fit CPU cooler onto different motherboards.
* A direct comparison to some of our previously tested coolers is not possible, because the test system has changed fundamentally in the meantime. Nevertheless our CPU cooler chart* is here again with a comprehensive CPU cooler comparison.
