The Crucial MX200 500 GB mSATA SSD CT500MX200SSD3 achieved, like the MX200 M.2, no new speed records but the mSATA SSD offers reliability and data security as known of the 2.5″ MX200 SSD and achieved good SATA SSD performance on a tiny 30x50mm board.
The Crucial mSATA MX200 500 GB MLC Solid State Drive has been equipped, like the 2.5″ Crucial MX200, with Marvell 88SS9189 controller and Micron 16nm NAND and is tested both in preferred AHCI operation, as also in legacy IDE operation. Using AHCI mode showed significant benefits as for our entire SSD reviews.
As we can clearly recognize in the mSATA SSD benchmarks, the performance is on a similar level, such as the M.2 MX200 SSD. A look at the technical data also shows that this SSD is build for increased data integrity and reliability. The Crucial M550 and MX100 is specified with up to 72 TB TBW (total bytes written) the new Crucial MX200 500 GB mSATA SSD is specified 160 TB bytes written, equivalent to 87 GB per day over a period of 5 years. These figures are important not only for the warranty, but underline the very high durability of the NAND cells. Who like to know more about TBW, finds numerous data and formulas at Micron and in the JEDEC SSD specifications.
All in all the new Crucial MX200 500 GB mSATA module achieved like the previously tested 500 GB M.2 MX200, 500 GB MX200 and 1 TB MX200 a very high performance, supports the latest technologies in the smallest space and achieved a high durability. Only the temperature rises with the high load of the benchmarks much higher than conventional 2.5″ SSDs, since the heat sink in form of the SSD enclosure as opposed to the 2.5″ SSD is missing at M.2 and mSATA modules. Thanks to integrated temperature control and overheating protection, the installation in an Ultrabook, Notebook, Tablet, Barebone, HTPC or conventional PC with mSATA slot is no problem at all.
