Layout, design and features …
Here you can see the front of the small Crucial P5 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD. By the way, a special sticker made of thin copper sheet metal for better temperature dissipation of the controller was omitted.
We have carefully removed the sticker to learn a little more about the chips used. Here you can see the two Micron NW970 MT29F8T08ESLCEG4-R Micron 96 Layer 3D TLC NAND modules of this SSD with a total capacity of 2TB. The differences between QLC, TLC, SLC and MLC have already been explained in the Windows practical testing of the Crucial BX200 480GB SSD. Under the sticker you will also find the Micron DM01B2 Controller IC and the Micron D9XGJ MT53D512M32D2DS-046 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR4 DRAM Cache module.
A SMD activity LED like on the Crucial P1 M.2 NVMe SSD was by the way not installed and the backside of the Crucial P5 is blank even on the maximum 2000GB version.
Since we would like to provide more information and practical experience with the M.2 NVMe SSD, we have also included a practical testing page.
