Layout, design and features …
The Philips Screeneo UL5 Smart is an ultra-short-throw projector with RGB triple laser and 550 lumens, which is designed for a screen area of 100 inches equal to approx. 250 cm in darkened rooms. It has an Android-based operating system called LuminOS and comes with several pre-installed apps such as Mediaplayer, Amazon Prime, YouTube, Disney+ and Netflix and can be expanded with many apps. Here you can see the ventilation slots and the two USB-C connections, whereby the left USB-C port is designed for the power supply and the right USB-C port as a video signal source.
On the front, you can see the illuminated power button and a fabric strip that covers the two speakers, as the projector already has two 3 watt speakers integrated. Alternatively, you can also use external Bluetooth speakers thanks to the integrated Bluetooth connection. 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WLAN is also integrated so that you can use Screencast and Apple AirPlay straight away.
Here you can see the front of the Philips Projector again.
On the opposite long side there is also an HDMI connection and a USB-A port, where you can connect a USB stick directly to watch videos or pictures, for example.
The feet on the flat side allow the projector to be placed upright on a table or floor so that the image can be projected directly onto the surface in front of it.
And Here you can order the optics, where you should of course never look directly inside during operation. Incidentally, Philips has not integrated detection with automatic laser switch-off.
On the underside of the housing, it quickly becomes clear why you shouldn’t look into the optics, as three lasers have been integrated to display the image – only class 1 lasers, but it’s better not to look directly into them either. Feet have also been attached there to allow the image to be projected onto the wall at a short distance when set up horizontally. There is also an integrated M6 threaded hole for mounting the projector on a conventional tripod or ceiling bracket.
The workmanship leaves a very good impression and gives us hope for good image quality.
Now we come to the practical testing.
