The picture quality of the Philips Screeneo UL5 Smart in a darkened room absolutely convinced us and our initial skepticism about such a compact ultra-short throw projector was dispelled in no time at all.
Although the brightness is not sufficient for outdoor use during the day, the brand new projector from Philips offers a wide range of applications for displaying on a screen or even directly on a table.
The advantage over an ordinary projector is obvious, as it can be used in smaller rooms with this short projection distance and nobody can walk through the picture as the projector is only placed a few centimeters in front of the screen.
Thanks to the integrated Android-based LuminOS operating system and WiFi, this compact projector can be used directly without additional devices, even if the performance of the system could be a tad faster for our taste. Via the HDMI and USB-C connection, the Philips UL5 offers a wide range of options for connecting to many different devices, such as media players, smartphones, tablets, PCs, notebooks, external SSDs/HDDs or NAS. And there is even a USB-A port for conveniently playing pictures or videos via a conventional USB stick without any further effort.
Stereo speakers are also integrated and if this sound output is not enough, you can even connect external speakers or a headset via Bluetooth.
The intuitive operation via the Philips AirMote remote control with presenter via Bluetooth connection rounds off the overall package positively.
