Installing the UPS is very simple. Once all the plugs are plugged in and the UPS is connected to the mains, it starts up immediately.
What immediately catches the eye is the fan noise which is already mentioned in advance by the manufacturer. Quote: Eaton Ellipse Pro 1200 DIN: “Fan permanently active” and Eaton Ellipse Pro 850 DIN: “Fan only runs in battery and buck/boost mode, silent in mains operation”. On the USV Practical testing page we provide a small sound sample of what this UPS sounds like.
Another feature is the AVR function (Active Voltage Regulator). This ensures that a stable voltage is passed on to the connected end devices despite a possibly impure input voltage. If this function is activated, this is confirmed by the AVR indicator on the display. Let us now continue with the installation of the software, which must first be downloaded from the manufacturer.
Pleasingly small 2.7 MB which, once installed, only takes up 5.2 MB of disk space. A small translation error crept into the installer, which made it impossible for us to complete the installation 😉
Joking aside, both the installation and commissioning of the software went smoothly. The status display informs us that our UPS is not yet 100% charged.
Under the “Alarms” tab, we can view events and see when the UPS intervened and how long the outage lasted.
The settings offer us many options for configuring the UPS according to our wishes. For example, what should happen to the connected PC in battery mode and up to what residual capacity the UPS continues to supply the devices with power.
You can enter an energy price, set the master/slave function and activate or deactivate acoustic alarms. The pun on “acoustics” really made our day.
Notifications in the system bar, language settings and automatic software updates round off the package.
Opening the last tab “Info” immediately shows us that the Eaton update server is not available. Information on the current software version and firmware of the UPS is usually displayed here.
