Eaton Ellipse Pro DIN 1200VA USV Review

Result and general impression …

The Eaton Ellipse Pro DIN 1200VA UPS offers a solid way to protect your PC, NAS or home server.

Actually, everyone should have a UPS or power station with UPS functionality and surge protection in their home and at least protect their most valuable devices with it. A few months ago, we experienced first-hand what can happen if this is not the case. Lightning struck the roof gable and destroyed a number of appliances throughout the house. Especially when it comes to overvoltage, many of today’s appliances are very ungrateful and often stop working. However, not all electrical appliances are able to cope with power fluctuations or failures.

There was basically nothing to criticize about the function of the Eaton Ellipse Pro DIN 1200VA UPS. Switching and operation were reliable. The AVR function effectively cleans up the mains voltage and the ECO function enables at least some power to be saved, although the UPS is likely to consume this for itself on the other side. With regard to the integrated overvoltage protection, we have to rely on the manufacturer’s statements, who at least trusts his product to the extent that he grants a 3-year unlimited warranty on connected devices.

Pure sine wave would have been desirable, but would have been reflected in the price and is unfortunately not supplied.

In our opinion, however, the consistently audible fan noise during operation limits its use somewhat, at least in living rooms. Anyone looking for a silent solution should take a look at the smaller Eaton Ellipse Pro models, because according to Eaton, the Eaton Ellipse Pro 850VA DIN fan only runs in battery and buck/boost mode and is silent in mains operation.

Regardless of whether you own an Eaton Ellipse Pro or another UPS in the future, we can warmly recommend the purchase and use of a UPS to everyone.
