We recently tested the Icy Dock MB021VP-B, a removable frame for an U.2 NVMe SSD, and today we are taking a look at the MB834MK-B V2 removable frame from the ToughArmor series, the perfect counterpart for two M.2 NVMe SSDs. Whether you place the removable frame in a server rack, a 3.5-inch housing slot or simply on the enclosure is up to you. In any case, the two M.2 SSDs can be swapped quickly and without any tools. In the test, we will see whether you can optimally operate a Crucial T700 2TB and a Crucial T705 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 5.0 SSD, although the architecture is designed for PCIe 4.0, and also explain what PCIe bifurcation is all about.

As usual, Icy Dock delivers the ToughArmor 2 Mobile Rack in a small, environmentally friendly cardboard box. On the front you can already see a few important product features as well as the 5-year warranty period.
In addition to the model and serial number, the back shows some information on the relevant guidelines. The product description is printed in various languages for international use.
The product was delivered securely packed in bubble wrap. The small box is perfect for storing the instructions and any screws that are not required after installation.

Included is the Mobile Rack, instructions, two keys, two thermal pads and six screws for installing the MB834MK-B V2 in the housing.
We also use two Icy Dock MB323L-B SFF-8654 4i cables and a 10GTek PCIe x8 SFF-8654 4i adapter card in the test. Important note: The mainboard must support PCIe bifurcation and the 10GTek PCIe x16 SFF-8654 8i card is not compatible as it is equipped with the wide 8i connector and the PCIe x4 SFF-8654 4i card would only have a 4i connector. Therefore, when ordering, make sure that two SFF-8654 4i cables can be connected and that the mainboard supports PCIe bifurcation (see PCIe bifurcation explanation in Practical testing).
