Layout, design and features …
The Icy Dock MB834MK-B V2 is designed for mounting in a 3.5″ drive bay and has three fine threaded holes on both sides for mounting in the housing.
There is a small lock on the left-hand side that can at least prevent accidental removal during operation. Incidentally, there is no slide switch for switching the drive on and off on this Mobile Rack, but if you want to boot from different operating systems or completely disconnect backup media from the system, for example, you can remove the frame when it is switched off and thus completely deactivate the M.2 SSD.
Directly next to the lock there is an eject button and an integrated power LED, which is also used as an activity LED and lights up green as soon as the M.2 SSD has been put into operation. And so that no vulnerable contacts are required for the LED, Icy Dock has again solved this via a small fiber optic cable in the M.2 carrier from the receptacle to the front of the mobile rack front.
On the back you can see the standard 15-pin SATA power connector in the center and two small metal covers on the right.
The SlimSAS SFF-8654 4i connection can be recognized immediately under the protective covers, which have been assigned according to the SFF-9402 Rev 1.1 pin-out.
The workmanship is again very well done and makes an extremely solid impression.
Now we come to the installation of the Mobile Rack.
