iScooter T4 Review

T4 e-scooter with pneumatic tires and reasonable suspension! The era of e-scooters began just over 5 years ago, when we published the first e-scooter review, including an e-scooter provider review, in an OCinside.de Summer Special. Today we would like to take up this topic again in a Winter Special including a video and test a very recent iScooter 1000W T4 off-road e-scooter with road approval. We also examined how the development of e-scooters has progressed and looked at current e-scooters from some rental providers in Hamburg.

E-scooter advantages and disadvantages …

Hardly any other topic is as controversial among vehicles on our roads as the topic of e-scooters. This is because many die-hard cyclists are still at war with these small electric vehicles, pedestrians find them too fast on mixed pedestrian and cycle paths, drivers find them too slow on roads without separate cycle paths and they don’t go down well with dogs anyway. In the meantime, they can hardly even be used for the so-called last mile, as many public transport companies have banned them from streetcars, subway trains, trains and buses as a precautionary measure due to the fact that cheap e-scooters have caused batteries to explode, even though this could of course also be the case with a “cheap” pedelec/e-bike/electric bicycle. And last but not least, some of the rental e-scooters are being banned again from major locations because they were often parked improperly and ridden on sidewalks.

And all this despite the fact that the e-scooter is actually a very advanced vehicle that is equipped with battery-powered electric motors and only has a minimal impact on the environment due to its relatively low weight for transporting one person (yes, just one, not two or three). In addition, the e-scooter is relatively easy to handle, technically very reliable and, with high-quality batteries, does not explode more often during the charging process than an electric car. These are many reasons for us to take another look at an interesting e-scooter and since even e-scooter tuning with CFW (custom firmware) is possible, it naturally fits perfectly with the theme of OCinside.de 🙂

Moped tuning with a larger cylinder head, polished intakes, a different muffler and changing the gear ratio with different sprockets was yesterday, e-scooter chip tuning and e-scooter chip tuning is today – but don’t copy it, even if you can easily find the right firmware codes on the Internet and, for example, quickly increase an iScooter T4 from the permitted 20 km/h to 40 km/h, hidden P settings in the service menu and firmware modifications are of course not permitted, at least not on public roads!

Thanks for the support …

Many thanks for the support to the manufacturer iScooter T4.

The delivery of the iScooter T4 …

The iScooter T4 was delivered in this packaging, and we opted for the set with combination lock, bag and LED helmet. So you no longer have any excuse for riding without a helmet 😉

Let’s take a look inside the box.

The polystyrene in the box was very worn, but fortunately the contents still survived.

This is included in the scope of delivery …

The scope of delivery includes the actual iScooter T4, instructions, the ABE, the declaration of conformity (for the iScooter E9, E9 Pro, E9-2, E9TMax, T4, T8), a charger, a spare inner tube, a toolkit with screws and Allen keys. The set also includes the helmet, a bag for attaching to the e-scooter frame and a combination lock.

If you do not opt for the T4 set, you will probably not find these accessories in the scope of delivery. We have deliberately written “probably” here, as some buyers have also included the bag or similar. Also, the set officially only includes the simple e-scooter helmet without lights. However, we will of course not complain about the e-scooter helmet with lighting. However, we did have to put up with the unpleasant smell of the combination lock cover, so we had to leave it out in the fresh air for a day. When asked, the manufacturer told us that there had been no complaints from other customers about the smell of the combination lock.

In our opinion, the German version should also include a license plate holder where you stick the insurance plate, but none was included in our set. And so we quickly designed a license plate holder 3D object and printed it out with the 3D printer. If you are interested in the finished license plate holder .stl file, please have a look at our iScooter T4 article.

Of course, we have also integrated our OCinside.de lettering at the bottom. However, we assume no liability for official roadworthiness.

We would also like to take this opportunity to point out once again that all legal requirements of the eKFV should also be taken into account for so-called small electric vehicles. In Germany, for example, this currently includes the minimum age of 14 years, ABE for determining and proving roadworthiness and the liability insurance obligation. It is therefore essential to apply for liability insurance locally or online before riding the e-scooter on public roads! Local insurance companies usually have the license plate as a license plate sticker in stock. Depending on the insurance company, the costs amount to approx. 45 Euro per year including partial casco with 150 Euro excess, whereby the insurance must be applied for again each year from the first of March to the end of February, as with a moped. The documentation sticker comes with the documents and, as far as we know, does not need to be stuck on the eScooter handlebars, although there are some contradictory statements here and the insurance company has advised us to stick it on. We rely here on the GDV information that we were able to find.

If you like, you can now watch a short iScooter T4 video on our OCinside YouTube channel, where we show the folding mechanism, explain how to operate the e-scooter and ride a few laps over asphalt, paths and cobblestones.
