We must forego the usual screenshot of CrystalDiskInfo SSD and HDD information software exceptionally in this review, because the Plextor M8Se unfortunately was not supported even in the latest version.
Also with Hwmonitor, etc. was no readout of an internal temperature sensor possible.
Fortunately, we own a thermal imaging camera for some time in addition to the usual infrared thermometers, because we had hardly believed our thermometer this value:
With external temperature measurement we measured in the Ultra M.2 slot a maximum M.2 SSD temperature of incredible 110.3°C!
(Edit 07/2017: in the meanwhile we found a way to read out the temperature with Windows 10 instead of using Windows 7, but there’s still a large difference between the real measurement and the internal sensor output. We measure approx. 20 degree higher temperatures with external thermal sensor and infrared thermal camera than the internal thermal sensor output!)
M.2 and mSATA modules often reaches high temperatures, but that so far surpasses all results and even in idle the M.2 SSD reached already above 60°C at a room temperature of just over 21°C.
Tip:
Who like to reduce the SSD temperature, for example can:
a) adjust the energy saving settings.
b) perform an active SSD cooling by direct ventilation.
c) attach commercially available silicone heat transfer pads to the top and bottom of the PCB.
d) purchase a special heatsink for M.2 SSDs *Ad or select the Plextor M8SeG M.2 SSD variant with heatsink.
e) purchase a M.2 PCIe card with heatsink *Ad or the Plextor M8SeY PCIe cars with heatsink.
