The Vertex series includes a total of 8 power supplies ranging from 750 to 1200 watts in 80 Plus Gold (GX) or Platinum (PX) efficiency classes.
Sea Sonic Electronics Co., Ltd. is one of the few power supply manufacturers on the market that has been developing and producing PC power supplies in various performance and efficiency classes not only for itself under the brand name Seasonic, but also for other brands for over 30 years. Since the Taiwanese manufacturer is not only active in the consumer market, but also in the professional sector, quality is always a special focus in the development of power supplies. Thus, Seasonic power supplies have built up an excellent reputation in terms of durability and performance over the past decades.
The delivery of the Seasonic Vertex GX850 …
The high weight of the Vertex GX-850 is noticeable as soon as you touch the packaging, and high weight often indicates decent quality. The Vertex logo can be found on the front of the packaging. Furthermore, a few key features like 10-year warranty, 80 Plus Gold or the compatibility to the current PCIe 5.0 and ATX 3.0 standards are highlighted.
On the back, more features are described in a bit more detail and an efficiency curve is also shown.
On the front there is, among other things, a picture of the new 12VHPWR plug and a link in the form of a QR code. This leads to a page with instructions on the correct use of the 12VHPWR plug. Since this connector has caused problems for some users in the recent past, you should at least have a look at Seasonic’s information before using this connector.
After opening the box, some of the rich accessories are already revealed.
The power supply and the cables are packed separately in textile bags. The power supply is also enclosed in foam so that nothing can fly around or get scratched during transport. Unnecessary plastic madness is fortunately avoided in terms of environmental protection.
A firm grip is needed when removing the power supply, because the Vertex GX-850 weighs quite a bit.
Scope of delivery …
Besides the power supply, you also get plenty of accessories with the Vertex GX-850. Seasonic has packed the following in the box:
– 1 Vertex GX-850 power supply
– 5 velcro straps
– 12 cable ties
– 4 mounting screws
– 1 Seasonic sticker
– 1 jumper (PSU tester)
On the very extensive cable set for connecting PC components …
… we will go into detail about this later in the test.
In addition, Seasonic also includes a note about using the 12VHPR plug and a manual.
Last but not least, there are also installation instructions and a registration card with a chance to win a $50 Steam voucher.
We could probably give an award for the most extensive accessories right now, but first we’ll take a look at the technical data of the power supply.
