SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL Wireless Review

Practical testing …

SteelSeries Apex Pro Gaming …

Who hasn’t been there? You come home after a stressful day and want nothing more than to sit comfortably behind the wheel of a combine harvester and harvest some grain. Precise and fast commands help immensely here, as do the double bindings on the buttons. They make it easier to lower and start the equipment.

The game Ghostrunner also relies on fast and precise keystrokes. Stopping in time using the Rapid Trigger option can mean the difference between cheering and falling into the abyss.

Of course, games that are played exclusively with the keyboard are very easy to play. A prime example of this would be the classic The Binding of Isaac Rebirth. Both movement and shooting in each of the four cardinal directions are carried out using the keyboard. Here, too, the Apex Pro TKL Wireless Keyboard performs excellently.

The key inputs are received so precisely that …

… that it’s almost scary.

Although the keys are not quiet, they are roughly comparable to the Red switches that are also installed. Want a sound example?

SteelSeries Apex Pro quality …

The keyboard offers high quality. Nothing squeaks or creaks. Only the OLED display could have been a little brighter, as it is somewhat difficult to read in daylight. We fully charged the Apex on receipt and then discharged it to 5%. A charging process with these parameters took approx. 6.5 hours and achieved a good value after taking the remaining capacity into account.

The runtime with this charge was 2 days and 3 hours until the Apex reached 5% charge again. However, this was achieved with 100% illumination, 2.4 GHz wireless connection and 10 hours of daily use, so that the keyboard barely had time to switch to sleep or power-saving mode. Although SteelSeries’ predicted usage time is just under 15 hours, this can certainly be achieved with a little discipline.

SteelSeries Apex Pro costs …

At this point, we have to take exception to the high cost of the keyboard. The hall sensors alone cost just under one Euro each. However, this does not include buttons and magnets. An OLED display is also installed and the quality speaks for itself.

SteelSeries Apex Pro in the office …

But the Apex also cuts a fine figure in the office. Although we had to get used to this 80% variant a little when we switched to it, we were then able to achieve good results. Accidental pressing of neighboring keys could actually be reduced by adjusting the pressure level.

Now we come to our conclusion.
